Mid-Year break Update

Well, with the exception that I seem to be dying today, mid-year break has been going great! It started with a little Christmas Caroling around town and at the assisted living place down the road. Then, a few Holiday Parties and Crazy adventures later, it was Christmas!

Santa was really nice this year! I got some clothes and shoes, this season's Broadway Cares blanket, Broadway.com gift certificates, and some little stocking-stuffer games.

We also got this big box addressed to me and me siblings. It was ROCK BAND. Now, I didn't know what it was when we opened it...but 20-something hours of play later, i think it's safe to say I am officially Addicted. If you've never heard of it, it's like Guitar Hero, meets Karaoke, meets the Drum and Bass versions of Guitar hero. So you sit in front of the TV and everyone has an instrument and you play songs based on what it tells you to do on the screen...amazingness. AND, after 16 years of having a little brother, I am finally better at a video game then he is- haha. Me, Kellie and Steve make a rockin' band that can kick the crap out of and 16 year old punk.

So...what puts 6 hormonal preteens against each other and makes fun of their awkwardness for all to enjoy?? THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE!

(the Broadway Musical...not a real spelling bee...although I'm sure the people in that are quite awkward as well) So Kellie and I went in to the City at 9:30am to be at the front of the line for Student Rush Tickets to the show before it closes next month. So we got 4 tickets in the second row for $25 a piece, and our friends Steve and Meghan met us for the show later. So being that we had the tickets by 10am, and the show wasn't until 8pm, Kellie and I had a wonderfully chill day in the city of making fun of tourists, drinking Starbucks' caramel Apple Cider AND riding 8 escalators up to a movie theater on the top floor of an insane Theater Complex to see "Juno".

So My friend Steve from school came up to hang out/play rock band/ rehearse for ACTF yesterday. Good times. And, I'm really looking froward to "Mike and Kellie's Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious New Year's Eve Bash" details to come...Happy 2008 everyone!

Until next post...

free at last, free at last!

First semester Sophomore year is done. It's a really wired feeling- I'm glad it's done, but the semester flew by.

Anyway, in celebration of being done, Me, Steve, Taylor and David went and saw "I am Legend," the new Will Smith Film. It wasn't bad, but nothing special. Will Smith stars as the only Man left in New York after a horrible viral plague wiped out the whole city- turning them into Zombies that are Nocturnal, Rabid, and Computer Animated!

So Smith (who is immune to the virus in both airborne form and in contact form...naturally) and his dog Sam (who is immune to the airborne virus) run around the empty city trying to solve the virus by catching rabid people and experimenting on them.

Then, the zombies finally get smart and manage to set a very intricate trap for smith, who ends up suspended from his foot in mid-air by a steel cable. But Luckily Smith has a pocket knife on him that he uses to slice through the steel cable.

Well, in a dramatic ending, Smith and 2 un-infected guests that he has come across are on one side of a plexiglas wall, with all of the zombies on the other side. Finally , Smith realizes what the cure is and puts it in a bottle and gives it to his guests, who he then hides in a closet...(because the Zombies that were smart enough to set the steel cable trap would NEVER think to look in the closet that they just watched people get into...right)

I won't ruin the very very end...but it has to do with a colony of un-infected people in a bubble in Vermont and a really cheesy quote.

and there you have it. Will Smith is (Kinda, maybe a little bit) Legend (whose acting is Painful)

It's turkey Lurky Time

Props to Barbara Smith for the title of this.

Happy Thanksgiving! (well, I guess Happy Black Friday now)

it has been an insane day of eating, listening to my 6yo cousin talk about butts, eating some more, playing BS and Spoons, eating, going to see "enchanted", eating, and eating some more.

Anyway, Enchanted was pretty good! Not as good as I was expecting...but I had very high standards. Totally worth seeing though.

That is all for the night

NoteWorthy Does TRL

3 days ago we got a call from Courtney, a segment producer at MTV, asking my a cappela group, NoteWorthy, if we would come on TRL and sing for a special "musical episode" of TRL featuring Patrick Dempsey, Amy Adams, Jordan Sparks and Hayden Christenson.

umm....YES

So they e-mailed us a bunch of questions and snippets that they asked us to arrange original music to and learn for Monday's live broadcast. They told us to learn them all, and when we got there, the executive producer would listen to us and decide what we would use and what we would not. They also told us to chose 8 people out of the 19, and they would be the only ones who could sing on the show (the rest would sit in the audience)

well, we arranged and learned all of the music, got dressed in our fancy black outfits, and drove 2 hours into NYC!

Everyone was so chill! the Exec producer came and listened to us, and she loved us so much that not only did we keep everything that we arranged, but she even had us earn some quick additional things AND had all of us sing! (Which was the best part of the day)

AND our very own Sara got to go undercover, pretending she wasn't part of the group and DANCE WITH PATRICK DEMPSEY!and he was so nice!

anyway, more on that to come...but for now it's time to sleep.

What's with all the free time?

Well, Ruddigore has finally ended. It's a great feeling to finally have my life back. Now with all of my free time, I can read books, write papers, prepare scenes, and get ready for intense auditions next weekend...yay

Overall though, Ruddigore was an amazing experience. It's just that 9 shows was a little long for a run, bye the end of the second week I wanted to throw myself off the stage into the orchestra pit or something. The one thing that I definitely WILL miss however is the people. I got to work with so many amazing people and that was awesome.

So this week is the first week of Special Productions! we have 2 shows going up this week, 2 next week and then 1 more later in the semester. I think everything will be a little easier once these shows are finally up- I man, I love my job, but being responsible for so many productions is crazy (which reminds me, i need to find a TV for one of the shows...crap) However, I DID sit in on the first tech. rehearsal tonight and the shows are looking great! so that's exciting.

Nex weekend are the Callbacks for "Loves Labours Lost," the Shakespeare piece that we are doing as a mainstage next semester. I have been called back for the role of Costard (which I'm SO glad/thankful for) So I guess that means I should read the whole play now...yikes. Usually I love reading scripts...but Shakespeare can be pretty tough for me.

Yea, so life is pretty hectic, but great. I love what I'm doing- even if it does take over every waking moment of my life.

Tech...lots of tech

So here we are at 9am on day 3 of tech for Ruddigore. This has been an insane tech period so far, and it doesn't show any signs of getting any less hectic.
Today should be loads of fun! We have tech rehearsal until 2, then we have just enough time to grab lunch at get to the choir concert! Then, after the choir concert...e get to come right back to tech until 11pm!

Anyway, last night a guest A cappella group from Carnegie Mellon came to visit and perform. they were really good but that night we had a party with them and we got to see a whole new side of then...they're nerds! haha, seriously, this was the only party i had ever been at where campus safety was called to bust it because the people put on their own CD and wouldn't stop singing along with it ridiculously loudly. Well, that party got annoying pretty quickly, so we spent the rest of our night at Trivet Diner (yea, we're cool)

Anyway, I hear alot of screaming coming from the stage so I think it's about time I go down to deck...just kill me now

Young Frankenstein

Holy Crap...it's insane.
Not only is the show, hysterically funny and extremely entertaining, but it would be worth sitting through just for the shear state of dumbfoundedness that you will find yourself in when you see the amount of huge and elaborate scenery that these people can produce out of 4 seconds of darkness. Not only were there hundreds of flying pieces, but there were tons of tracking wagons and all of it was equipped with flashing lights and van de graaf generators that sent actual bolts of electricity through the air on the stage.

Ok, so now that I got all of my initial excitement out...the show was very well done. The cast, which included names like Roger Bart, Andrea Martin, Sutton Foster, and Megan Mellaney (yes, i got everyone's autographs on my playbill) was brilliant. The only thing that bothered me was Roger bart's yelling thing. If anyone's seen the producer's, you know what I'm talking about. When he gets excited or dramatic he yells in this yelling, comedic voice that is really funny the first time, but I felt like he delivered every other line of YF in that voice!

I also wish that Sutton had a little bit more. She was amazing, but the part is not that huge- she's almost always on stage, but she doesn't have enough to say. she does have one song in the beginning however right after her entrance that was AMAZING. I wont say anything b/c I don't want to ruin it, but she is hysterical!

Anyway, It's late so I dont have time to write down all of the things that I would like to, but GO SEE IT!!!

(p.s. if you don't know what a van de graaf generator is, look below....and then picture them all over the set)

It's Alive!

Tonight, I get to see "Young Frankenstein" the new Mel Brooks Broadway Musical!
I'm really excited, I didn't think that I was going to see it until a few months from now, unless I wanted to spend 6 thousand dollars on tickets, but by some miracle, I logged on to ticketmaster yesterday, and there they were! 2 tickets...somewhere in a corner of the theatre somewhere...but in the theatre none the less! So me and Kathleen are going tonight!

details and reactions to come!

Fall

I love fall

i don't know if I can even express how much I love it
it's amazing

Fall Break

It's finally here! Fall Break starts tomorrow (well, technically today?) and I can't wait. A break is long overdue...like, seriously. If they keep us here much longer- someone's going to strike; no joke, someone's going to lose it, and with my luck- it will be one of my residents. And I can't have residents flipping out and going phycho and killing people...

...that's far too much paperwork

Is it time yet?

Yes! the time has finally come to write in my Blog!

So alot has happened since I lase blogged. Classes are going well so far. This week is the French Film festival and I have to see 2 films and write on them for my Video & Film analysis class, so it wont be must of a weekend for me. Ruddigore rehearsals are awesome although it's a little scary to think that we open in less than a month! My A Cappella group, NoteWorthy, took 10 new awesome members and we sound amazing! Being an RA is nice, some of my residents are ridiculous...but I'm growing to actually find them amusing.

So, I'm sitting here in Steve's room. Steve is on duty, so he's trapped in the building. But I think me and Lina may go over to the CA later, and maybe out to see some friends.

Belle, O'helle rhymes with nelle...ponder it...

that's all for now.

trash boy strikes again

last night were the building meetings, at the end of which everyone had to fill out a survey. Survey time came, and sure enough I look up to catch trash boy (or reesident X, if you prefer) attempting to sneak out the side door. So I yell yo him "hey [name]" at which point he looks at me and runs...only i know a short cut. So i run to cut him off- but he dosen't show, so i go back to the room and see him sitting back in his seat doing his survey. (strange)

When he gets up and goes to hand in his survey and leave, I say to him "why'd you come back?" to which he answers "well, you were going to hunt me down, and I live accross the hall from youl, and you could probably make my life a living hell."

...i think he's begining to get it

and finally, a break

So the last few weeks have been insane. I got back up to campus on August 17th and went through a week of RA training, 2 days of which were in a log cabin in the middle of nowhere. (those of you who know me know just how much I like roughing it in the winderness.) A few residents did early move-in, but no bid deal....except of course when I came home at night to find a huge box of trash outside some kid's door. So, logically, i leave a little note for him saying "Hey [resident's name] please take this out with you next time you leave and just drop it off in the dumpster. thanks"

well...that was nice of me- and I was thrilled to find that later that night, the box was gone. Seems like it was easy enough, right? Wrong, you can imagine my surprise when i walked down the hall later and found a box just like Resident X's sitting outside someone elses door! it even had the same letter from me!

So, I walk the box back and put it in front of his door again. I go into my room, do some work, and when I come back out, there are two guys walking out of the room with the box. So i say "hey, what are you guys doing with that?" and they answer "ooh, taking it to the dumpster...you know, cuz that's what it says on it."

thank god, the finlly got it!...or not. Later that night when I went to visit my friend on 4th floor, there's the box! So this time, the box is moved downstairs, the note is removed, and in it's place is put a sign that says "in the dumpster by noon tomorrow, or you will be fined"..... they got it that time.

But training week finally ended, and the rest of my residents moved in last friday, the 24th.

Everything has been ok since then. first week of classes is almost over and things are running "semi" smoothly. Most of the resident's are ok, some are jerks, and of course...there is trash boy

Friday, August 24, 2007

The start of something new

I know, I know...I haven't blogged in like, forever. But this past week has been insane. I have been back at school since last friday doing RA training every day from 7am-11pm. AND, two of those days were spent in a cabin in the woods in the middle of nowhere (but that's a whole NEW blog entry).

Anyway, that's finally over, as my resident's all moved in this morning. They're pretty cool...I think. Of course, you never know who's gonna turn on you completely unexpectedly. Alot of sports people- :-/ but i really do think it's going to be great.

everything else here is great, and come tomorrow it will actually be good! We had to be up at

I'm finally getting to that point...that point where being home is OLD and all I want to do it go back to school! But Luckily- I do get to go back...this friday!

I promise, my blog will get more exciting again when I get back to school and have excitment in my life again.

Saw "The Simpson's Movie" tonight with Kim and Sean...very dissapointing. All I heard for the longest time was how amazing it was, so I was all excited to see it. I mean, I MUST have been excited, if I wasn't- there was no way I would have paid ELEVEN DOLLARS for a ticket (What IS that!?) But we were al dissapointed with it. It seems like all the good stuff was put into the commercials, so after that- there's nothing funny left. So to make up for the wasted time in that movie theater, we got some ice cream and took a walk down the beach. We were down somewhere about a half mile from where we parked, when all of a sudden, Sean loks up into the sky and sees a light. He proceeded to insist it was a UFO. "Guys, Look- It's getting closer to us!" "Oh my god guys, we should leave...we need to go back to the car." We tried to tell him that we didn't think it was moving, but Sean was uninterested- He just wanted to watch his UFO. But then the Strangest thing happened- all of a sudden, it WAS coming towards us. So there we were, with a UFO barreling towards us when all of a sudden it changes direction and "takes on the appearence" of a plane. Yea, I guess it saw us standing there and figured If 3 people are gawking at it, then it's blown it's cover and should pretend to just be a plane and leave everyone alone. Yea, let's go with that.

But what I DID enjoy tonight came from the last place expected. My friend Sean was insistent that we watch this show called "Weeds" that he's apparently really into....It was SO funny! I was completely surprised! Who whould have thought that a series about a mother that selld Pot and get's ought up in rediculous things could be so well written and genuinely interesting and hilarious!!

High School Musical 2

This friday, Disney channel releases "High school Musical 2," the sequel to the single biggest disney sensation in our lifetime. Well, little do most people know, but Disney actually "released" the movie last night...you just have to know how to find it.

Well, I was less than happy with the movie. It was so boring- ther plot was so stretched that I almost fell asleep. I feel like they had a few good ideas, but rather than developing them, they were so eager to make the sequel before the hype of the original faded, that they rushed into a sub-par sequel.

As for the music- the fun catchy songs from the original are (I guess) a thing of the past. The new songs are all electronically enhanced, contain voice effects, and sound like something other than singing.

I mean, come on Disney...you're better than that

Visiting Buckley!

So I visited Buckley today! (The camp that I went to/worked out for 14 summers and DIDN'T return to this summer) It was...interesting. I think they are putting crack cocane into the lunches, I mean, they MUST be, that's the only explanation for what I saw today. I went down to the gym with my friend Liz, who is the gymnastics specailist and a few other people, where Liz greeted her afternon group. WELL, they were a sight for sore eyes.

Let's start with the group leader. Well...she was practically comatose. She's new this year, a 26 year old woman who looks 45 and acts like she's 16. Anyway, she walks up to Liz and continues to explain how bad her kids are and how she has to leave because she dosen't want to see them, and how Liz should discipline them. (I later found out that this girl has worked at almost every camp on the island, because she works for a year, and is never asked back...oops)

So there we are, me and Katie sitting in the corner observing, all the Kids, Liz, and the 2 other counselors with the group... well, if you want to count the 2 counselors... Actually, the 2 counselors decided to climp into a tunnel thing in the room and try to make out. (VERY professional).

So class goes on, Liz, the evil kids, the horny counselors and us in the corner laughing hysterically. Finally Liz gets frustrated and says "Ok, if you don't want to cooperate, we can just sit her in silence, is that what you want?"
there is a slight pause as the kids glance at each other
and then
...
the kids erupt in a fit of cheers and agreement!

so the class stops, and the kids sit there for the rest of the session....

Yay Camp!

Why you ask?
Because her cell phone has no freakin' reception up at Muhlenberg and it's absolutely impossibe to hear her!

we call one time- "can you hear me"..."no"
so we try again- "how about now".. "well, i can kinda..." ::phone cuts off::
third times a charm, right?... "Pam, can you hear me?".... "I...uk..fh..jadnfiuvabsdkjcbausdcasdc- beep, beep, beep-"

Xanadu

Being home has been fun so far. Lots of sleeping, seeing friends, watching obscene amounts of TV, and of course a trip or two to the city.
Sunday was Xanadu day. That's right, Broadway has made a musical out of the biggest movie flop of all time. But Olivia Newton-John and her posse of 80's maniacs have nothing on the cast of Xanadu the Musical. (Ok, I'm starting to sound like an advertisement) Anyway, the show was so much fun and the music was amazing. Unfortunately, they haven't made an Original Broadway cast recording yet, so I'm listening to the old music from the movie for now. The only upset was that when sat down and opened our playbills, a river of understudy notices fell out. Kerry Butler (who I LOVE and was dying to see) was not there, but her understudy, Anika, was phenominal, and the understudy who played Anika's normal role was great too. The other substitution was actually a GOOD one- It turns out that in the last weeks of rehearsals, the Actor cast as the lead male was rehearsing his rollerskating numbr when he broke his ankle. So since opening night, the lead male has been Cheyanne Jackson- who in my opinion has THE best male voice on broadway. (Ok, so I exaggerated about the "river" of understudy notices...but when you're dealing with a cast of 8, 3 notices seems like a TON)

anyway, check out the Xanadu Website:

Strike

Well, It's finally over....the marathon run of Fiddler on the Roof has ended, the set is struck and the company is dispersing.
Tomorrow is sure to be a long day, I don't plan on waking up intill sometime after Noon, and then I have to pack up everything, make a run to the storage place with Felicia, and then pack up my car. Tomorrow night, right before we leave, we are seeing "Pump Boys and Dinetes," a "rockin' country western musical"....i don't know what I think about it, but I know a handful of people involved, so it'll be fun. After that, it's back to NY.

Sorry Mr. Janitor

Dear. Mr Senile Janitor that cleans the theatre building,

I apologize, we didn't mean to give you a heart attack. You see, when you came into the Tap box, we figured you were one of our friends coming in to look for us. But once we heard your vaccuum, the eight of us hiding in the corner of the room behind the curtain figured you were not with us. I guess you would have been more prepared to find people in the room if it were not 2am, but that really IS the best time for us to play sardines in the CA. Anyway, if we scared you, I apologize, but we figured that coming out of our hiding spot was better than letting you find us and be even more startled.

Love,
Those kids sneaking around the CA in the middle of the night

What is this feeling?

OK, so It's ben a while. Life here has been good. It's been a long week.

Monday, Me, Lina, NatWest and PCamp went to NYC to see Patti Lupone in Gupsy. It was great, we paid $25 and sat in the absolute last row of the theatre...but we were there!

Tuesday, was Dorney Day! It was long overdue, but a bunch of uss finally got over to Dorney/Wildwater Kingdom for a few hours of craziness. Everything was great...untill the Musik Express. Picture this: A roller coaster-esque track on a slant, that goes in circles while dipping up and down...yes, that's right- it's motion sickness in a tent! But, I got over it eventually, and the day was alot of fun.

Wednesday was intense. Everyone in the world decided to come up to visit on the same night, so naturally, Lina and I had to throw a big party...no hospital trips this time!

And that brings us to today. Thursday. I don't know how I feel about thursday. It's not like I dont like the day in general, it's just this this particular thursday hasn't been very good to me. It started out well, Felicia's finally here, so Me, felicia and Lina went to see this kid's show today, then out to lunch w/ NatWest. But everything seemed to go down from there. Thnight's show went OK, it just didn't feel right. I've been feeling like that about alot of things lately. It's just not a good feeling- very draining. So after the show we went for $1 bowling which was good, that feeling just seeed to follow me. I don't know, Maybe I'm just tired. It just seems like I'm missing something.

But on the bright side...I bowled a 12 (no...that's NOT a typo...12)

what does CVS mean anyway?

At CVS tonight: a young couple in front of me on line gets rung up for a pack of diapers, a baby bottle, some other baby supplies and a box of condoms...

cashier: thats $50.24

Woman: crap- you know what, return those condoms

the cashier does so

Man: screw that, re-ring the condoms, jsut get rid of the diapers

I dont know about anyone else...but my priorites would be putting a diaper on the baby that I already have, not trying to fool around without having another one

Another Openin' Another Show

Opening night was tonight!

I guess for some reason I thought this one would be different for me, but it wasn't...

there is something out there that I want more than anything else, and I just can't figure out how to get it, or if I have it already

That's alot of wax

Ok, so I haven't posted in a long time, but can you blame me? Im in tech rehearsals every day from 11am-11:15pm. But, everything is alright because today was our DAY OFF!
I know, it sounds highly unusual that any of us would need or even want a day off, but we did!
My super day of relaxation and fun began today when I woke up at 2:00. ( that's PM!) I proceeded to the bathroom where i get the good shower! and then pammie, renee and I went to the crayola factory in easton! We got to see how they make crayons, and we even made some ourseves! we also got to play with all the different things and act like we were in kindergarten again. PLUS- we got to see the World's largest crayon...i don't think that you could even comprehend this simply through this post- this was a 30 foot long blue crayon that must have weighed hundreds of pounds. There it was! right there in the middle of the store! we tried to buy it for $5 but they wouldn't let us (probably for the better anyway, it would have been hard to fit in the car.) Oh, and we also saw what was probably the mose expensive crayon ever- it turns out that in 1996, Mr. Rogers came to the crayola factory and hand wrapped the 100 millionth crayon or something like that to be made- and they gave the crayon away as a prize to some old woman...only, the thing is that 10 minutes after giving this prize away, the crayola company bought it back from the prize winner for 100 thousand dollars or some obsene amount around there...were talking 100 THOUSAND dollars for ONE crayon...i mean, come on people- it's just wax.
Our day only got better tonight when we played a campus wide game of INTENSE capture the flag. And when i say intense, i mean it. There were people scaling walls and rolling around in bushes and stuff- the first game went on for nearly 2 and a half hours.
Oh, and I did laundry today too- that means I have alot of choices tomorrow mirning...thank god

Camp- Day 2

Dear Drama Camp Campers,

Why?
Why are you all insane?
I hate to be the one to inform you, but I'm pretty sure that some of you are rabid- please see a doctor immediately.
I don't know if you all understand- the people with the shirts that say "Camp Staff" are in charge. Beating them with giant plush tootsie rolls is not acceptable. As for this friday's Faux-Ditions...listening to all of you practice your songs today was fun, but I will share a secret of the business with you. If while you were singing, the piano player had to stop playing to cover her ears...it's not because she had an itch. As for the Monologues that we are presenting tomorrow- please read them. If you do not read them, you will not know what you are talking about. If this is the case, and we have campers laughing through monologues about thier pet dying, I will not be a happy counselor.

I'll be seeing you way sooner than I would ever like to
-Mike

Camp Time!

So, I'm back on LI for the week - teaching Drama Camp at my old High School. It's one of the highlights of my summer because I work with 3 other people running this camp, all of whom are fantastic...this year's kids are different though. We have this one girl who flipped on me today. We were all singing around the piano and she turns to me and screams "this is NOT drama!! I thought we were gnna be doing Shakespeare!" I was completely floored. At least she'll like the monologue work tomorrow (hopefully). Speaking of tomorrow, tomorrow we are also doing alot of improv, so we told everyone to bring something random in. I was rummaging through the basement, and I think I found what I am bringing...a pink padded toilet seat (not used ;-) ) I just dont know what I am going to do with it...i guess that's why it's called improv.

Bad Blogger

OK, so I'm a bad blogger who hasn't blogged in a while.
Well, in my defense, i am in rehearsal every day noon-11pm...so it makes it hard
BUT, starting today, we get internet at rehearsal!

Everything up here is great...the show is moving along right on schedule, my friends are all around...
Of course, there was this one issue last night- Nunsense, which performs in the theatre next to us had a show last night, and there were alot of older people there. Well, right before the show, someone realizes that one of the audience members has pooped in the lobby, and left a trail from the front dor of the building to the door of the theatre...yummy. It turns out that one of the old women just couldn't hold it, and forgot that she can't do that in public.

...they were cleaning the carpet for a long time :(

I'm back!

So I woke up this morning, DJ'd a party from 1-3, hopped in my car and drove down to PA- I'm officially back on campus for the summer!! It was great, I got here in time to go to evening rehearsal for Fiddler, a party or two, AND to go grocery shopping at 1am!

Looking foward to an amazing summer with some amazing people!...let the good times roll!

Nunsense is Habit forming...

This weekend was- interesting. I drove down to school on saturday night to see "Nunsense" It was actually really well done. There is a part at the end of act I when Mother Superior gets high, and it was absolutely hysterical. Sunday was the real purpose of my trip though. Early sunday morning, Pam and I got in the car and headed for HersheyPark! I hadn't been there since I was 12 so it was really exciting- and- since I only started riding rollercoasters last year (yeah, i know) it was the first time that i was up for riding most of the rides at the park. I think my favorite part though was the water section. We rode the "Canyon River Rapids," a 6 person ride where you all get into a raft and go through a water course-thing. Well, the other two girls in the raft with Pam and I were from Hanover, or something like that and one of them gets into this raft with a pack of cigarettes and a lighter. Eventually, she realized that this was a "water" ride so she takes the cigarettes and lighter and wraps them in her shoes (a creatve idea) and puts them in the little bin in the middle of the raft. She proceeded to spend the entire ride yelling about how she didn't want to go backwards or get too wet and that if her cigarettes got wet she would execute someone. Well, The cigarettes stayed dry (we were all relieved.) Anyway, Lie I said- I only started riding rollercoasters last year, so i wasn't quite ready for "Great Bear"- the big twirly crazty one, so while pam rode that one, I went to the zoo-thing at the park. Now I don't have crazy expectations, but i wasn't exactly thrilled by the amazing wildlife: including a raccoon, some geese, and a frog. Our day in the park ended with a performacne from the "Gin Blossoms" - some band from Tempe, AZ. They were pretty good- google it!

I was supposed to drive back home that night, but I ended up staying another night so that I could do some work for Fiddler today...So this morning the stage mamagement team got together and spent 4 hours taping out a set in the rehearsal space! woot woot.

that's the extremely abridged version...i can't really post the full version online ;-)

Well, i haven't slept well in 3 days, so im heading to bed...goodnight!

Blog? What Blog?

Ok, so I've never had a desire to blog before, but after spending the last hour and 14 minutes of my life reading the blog of my friend Kerry, I figure- eh, why not...let's try this blogging thing!

So three months ago, I get a phone call-
"I'd like to book a party for June 15th 5-8pm"
"Ok, sounds good"
No big deal right?

So 3 days ago I'm sitting at the dinner table-
"Oh, Mike before I forget- you'r doing a party for me this friday night, no big deal- we have to make an 8 minute slide show for my girl scout troop, and then all I need is for you to come, show the movie and play some music for the girls"
...thanks Mom, for the advance notice?

Anyway, I get to the party today and the house is HUGE- I mean, I could get lost in this house and not find my way out untill hell freezes over. The woman comes out and walks me to the back yard (which, naturally- is HUGE) "I want you out here"
me "Ok, all we're gonna need is an outlet"
her "Oh, well- do you see one?"
now i'm thinking "we're in the middle of a field bigger then the one my elementary school had- where would i find an outlet? is she hiding one in the dog??" but I move on, find an outlet and the party begins.

The kids get there, and before i know it there are 40 kids jumping into the pool. Now, i'm no expert, but Let's see if anyone else can spot the hazards in this next situation. One pool, 40 eleven year old kids, one float thing (which everyone wants) and a diving board. Well, needless to say, the kids started coming up with some creative ways to sieze this float and soon enough I see kids leaping off the diving board and trying the "aerial attack" approach. 2 bloody noses later, the kids are now sharing the float and just floating around on it, but the mom is still worried someone will fall off too close to the side and split thier skull, so the mom tells the housekeeper to stand by the edge of the pool, and when the float gets too close...kick it. I think watching this little woman spend the next hour running around the pool kicking this thing in all possible directions was the most entertaining part of my day.

The party ends and we speed over to the country club to show this slideshow thing for my mom. We rush in, and one of the mother's has set up the entire girl scout troop playing BLINKO- some dice game. Then someone yells- "oh good, mike's here now we have an even number". So there I sat for the next hour, playing blinko, with 14 twelve year old girls....and thier moms.
